A special thank you to Kristin Alvarez for providing this article
Last month our team of 15 had the immense pleasure of being able to treat 659 patients throughout our trip and show the love of Jesus through medical care. Our group saw patients during a time period of only 4 ½ days so the number of patients seen seems staggering. It never ceases to amaze me how God wakes us up each morning with a renewed strength to take on the crazy day ahead despite the constant lack of sleep. For anyone who has been to Haiti you know that the nights are definitely not quiet (generators, dogs, roosters, etc.)!
Our God is a God of miracles and that was definitely evident this year in some of the patients that we saw and their miraculous recoveries. We saw a young boy with an acutely dislocated hip, who was in excruciating pain and had extremely limited range of motion. This same boy walked into the room two days later completely healed after we sent him for an x-ray. I couldn’t believe that I witnessed a miracle happen right before my eyes, it is something that I will never forget.

This year was unique in that we had a large enough of a team to split into two groups each day and serve in different locations. One group was at the clinic in Pillatre each day and the other team did a pop-up clinic in Lory. The road conditions on the way to Lory were a bit rough on account of the rain. The multiple trips back and forth were bumpy to say the least but Mackenson and Alex’s driving skills never cease to amaze! However, being able to serve in Lory each day was an absolute blessing. As Lory is more medically underserved, it seems as if the line of people coming for care is never ending. Being able to be there multiple days in a row gave us an ability to see more patients and seemed to give an air of hope to the people coming. We also got to see tons of babies and kiddos at Lory which never hurts for us baby lovers and having a pediatrician on this trip made it extra special!

This trip we were also able to see patients at the Haitian prison. This was a day that we prepared for heavily with the power of prayer because of how emotionally taxing we knew going to the prison was going to be. These men and women have been incarcerated for any and all reasons; some of these prisoners will be here for years before they even receive a trial, judgement, and sentence. There were cells with 70+ prisoners crammed into them. The prisoners are underfed, underserved, and in dire need of medical attention. While patients were being seen, part of the team was able to visit cells and pass out Creole bibles as well as pray with the inmates. As hard as this day was, it was so encouraging to see the prisoner’s hunger for God’s Word and prayer. Despite the conditions, there was much more hope than I had ever expected. You think you are going in to encourage them and it ends up that they encourage you! We were able to see 87 patients and fill all of their prescriptions in a very short amount of time which could only have been done with God’s power.

It always amazes me how God can bring together a team of 15 people, who start mostly as strangers, and use them in mighty ways to fulfill His will and purpose. Everyone’s unique talents and gifts are utilized in the best way to form a collaborative unit as we serve others. Some are the mouthpiece (Tonjua), some may be the funny bone (Lyndsey) but we all get to be God’s hands and feet. This being my second trip, I was completely struck with how much of a true partnership we have with Haitian Christian Ministries. We do not simply go for a week and take over the clinic; we come alongside the Haitian team and work beside them to serve the needs of the community. I never had the pleasure of meeting Pastor Manno, but as he said, after you go to Haiti once, “Haiti’s got you”. I know I speak for everyone on our team that Haiti has our hearts.

Financial Transparency and Accountability

We take very serious the proper stewardship of funds that are generously donated to support our brothers and sisters in Northern Haiti. We wanted to provide an overview of financial details of HCM. There are two primary sources of income: General fund and child sponsorship. We anticipate receiving approximately $527,000 from these sources in 2017. Approximately 65% comes via child sponsorship.

Category Cost % of budget

Salaries for Haitian Employees $244,572 46.4%

Campus operational expenses (Lory and Pillatre) $54,600 10.3%

U.S. expenses $23,150 4.3%

Unallocated funds $14,178 2.7%

*HCM does not have any paid staff in the U.S., and is staffed by volunteers. The U.S. expenses shown above are administrative costs of operating HCM, such as the cost of producing and mailing the newsletter.

Special Thank you to Christine Garner for this update

I’ve always said, when you go to Haiti you leave behind a piece of your heart, yet come home with a full one. This year was no exception for our team from Crossroads Church. We had a fantastic trip complete with ideal weather.
Our week started with a trip to stock the pharmacy on Saturday. We never know if we have the right medicines, but God seems to always work all things out. With the pharmacy fully stocked we were ready for the week.
Worshipping alongside our brothers and sisters in Haiti is always a highlight of the week. We appreciated all the warm welcomes and opportunity to hear God’s Word preached. God is alive and moving in the church at Pillatre!
Our team served at the Pillatre Medical Clinic on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This year, our team took a product called Dri-Butts diapers to be handed out through the clinic. What a joy it was to see Suzanne eagerly accept the gift of 100 cloth diapers developed for Haiti. She proudly handed them out during the week and instructed so many moms. We were all amazed at the programs she has put in place to help provide health and education for moms and babies. Our clinic days were filled with patients young and old and thankfully we had much of the medicines needed.

It was a special time on Tuesday and Thursday when we headed to the Lory Church to set up a clinic. We didn’t know what to expect, but when we pulled in families were waiting and the church was quickly converted to a clinic and we all went to work. It was amazing to be in one room and see everyone on our team using their unique gifts to work together. God was so evident in the Lory community and in our time there.
As Pastor Jacques took the time to pray a blessing over our team, we were all humbled and so thankful to be a ll part of the ministry. There are so many special times in Haiti, but most on our team found it a blessing to be invited into the homes of our interpreters one day. Their gift of hospitality and vulnerability revealed so much about the hearts of our brothers and sisters in Haiti and the opportunity to pray over them was special to us all!
Close to 500 patients were seen by our team over the week. Each one is created in the image of God. Each one is loved by God. Each one is valued deeply by God. And each one is forever in our hearts.

Discipleship at Haut-Dehaine, Camp-Louise

Special Thank you to Pastor Bob Lucceus for this update

Early in January 2017, Pastor Bob sat down with two Theology students (Joane a fourth-year theology student at Emmaus Biblical Seminary and Phito a fourth-year theology student at North Haiti Christian University) in order to inspire them with the three main focuses of HCM: Preaching and Teaching God’s Word, Planting Churches and Meeting the Physical Needs of the People. To start with this campaign of evangelization, each of them has chosen an area to make disciples.

On January 11th, Phito and Willeme, a Deacon at the Pillatre Christian Church and school teacher, went to Haut-Dehaine, a small and poor village of 2000 inhabitants at Camp-Louis (the first section of “Acul du Nord”). During the first day at Haut-Dehaine, three young men accepted Christ and around fifteen people who had previously abandoned church came back to Christ. On the second visit on January 20th, two other young men came to Christ and another fifteen who previously abandoned church came back to Him as well. During the third visit, Pastor Bob, Geneus Janvier (president of the Church committee), Ricardo (Pillatre church secretary), and Edson (second-year Theology student at Emmaus) joined Willeme and Phito. Pastor Bob was surprised to see more than one-hundred people attend this gathering. During that day, five young kids accepted Christ and nine other adults came back to Christ. Pastor Bob talked about the importance of being born again and the vision of HCM to bring more people to the Kingdom of God. As the executive members, Pastor Bob and Pastor Jacques from Lory decided to accompany Phito alongside the way and worked on a plan to disciple the new believers at Haut-Dehaine. There is now a Bible study every Wednesday at 4:30 PM and a short service on every Sunday afternoon at 4:30 PM to keep the new believers in training and get ready to be baptized soon.
In the first week of February, one of the new believers offered his land temporarily to build a tent to gather and worship. Since that time they started collecting trees from their gardens to start building the tent. The numbers of the people are increasing day by day. There are currently 147 who are really motivated to serve Christ and need a place to worship.
Prayer request for these needs:
1. A temporary tent to gather/worship - $350
2. 50 Bibles and some Book of Songs - $600
3. Transportation for Phito (Pastor) – Motorcycle $900
4. A generator of 3500 watts - $500 US
5. A sound system - $350 US

Prisca Laguerre Sabbatical
Prisca is taking the six months (January 8 – July 8) to recharge, refresh and rest from the work of HCM. She will be in Bloomington, IL with her daughter Judith for the first part of her sabbatical. If you are around Bloomington, you might see the Laguerre family around Eastview on Sundays, attending events and overall connecting into the life of the church.

Bringing Light to Northern Haiti

Preaching and Teaching the Word of God

Haitian Christian Ministries

2016 Issue 12

Eastview Team Leads Family Conference

Thanks to the Jack Patterson family for this trip recap

Rain, rain, and more rain! Haiti was getting more rain than it had in years and years and our November HCM team was headed that way. The rains caused widespread damage – flooding homes and many roads were impassable. It reminded the team even more how hard life is in this country, and how incredibly resilient the Haitian people are.

When we arrived on Friday afternoon it was still raining and it continued all day Saturday as we prepared for our week. We prayed for God’s will to be done – rain or no rain. Thankfully, we were able to do everything we planned to do. God is so good!

On Sunday, we had a brief morning shower, but it was dry the rest of the day and the following day - what a huge praise! We started with a church service at Pillatre. Much of the team taught Sunday school, which included acting out the Daniel & the Lions’ Den story. The kids made lion masks that they could take home in hopes they would share the story with others in their community. In the afternoon, we had a family conference at Pillatre where over 250 families came to hear a message on the value of children and marriage. We took family photos (which we printed and put in frames to hand them that afternoon), played games, and handed out treat bags and rice and beans. What a humbling experience to watch families stand in line for 45 minutes just to receive a bag of rice and beans.

Our next day was emotionally draining, yet so inspiring and hopeful. We started at Emmaus Biblical Seminary where we met Matt Ayars, President of the seminary. We drove deep into a rural area, then walked a couple miles through rough terrain and waded through streams to a community called Difou. This is an area where many have never seen white people before – so surreal!! We were able to visit their new church (and by church, we mean tent) and encouraged the people by sharing God’s love. We also gave away rice & beans until we ran out. We then drove to another new church plant in Fev. There, we had VBS for about 100 kids from the community. In addition, the team visited homes, prayed with the families, and gave out more rice and beans. We prayed with countless people with mud floors, leaking roofs, and little to no food. They have such horrible living conditions, but yet they endure. What an unforgettable day for us all.

While we had a less busy official schedule on Tuesday, it was very full emotionally. At Pillatre, we started with handing out the gifts from sponsors back home to the children they sponsor. It was especially sweet to see members of our team who started sponsoring children last year get to reconnect with them. Then we went out on a prayer walk with Pastor Bob and a couple other church members to encourage and pray with people from the community close by. They showed us their living conditions and we prayed for them, giving them rice and beans. We already knew their houses were poorly constructed, but with all the rain they've had it was overwhelming to see how they lived. We ended our time at Pillatre by sharing the lessons and resources we brought for the Sunday school teachers to assist them with teaching the children about Jesus.

The following morning brought more rain, but we still went to visit an orphanage. We were greeted by about 30 children under the age of eight cheering for us as we arrived. They melted our hearts! Geneus Janvier and his wife, Rosiane, started the orphanage because they felt God calling them to take care of these children. Our team was able to provide them with gift bags, clothing, a cooking pot, and rice and beans. What a special time with those precious children!! In the afternoon we went to the church in Lory. We did a similar family conference as we did at Pillatre. We had over 100 kids and 50 women at the conference. We were especially grateful to be able to even GET there as the flooding had been severe in this community. When we first arrived in Haiti, the road to Lory was completely flooded and no one could get there. God answered our prayers.

Lory Medical Building Nearing Full Funding

Thanks to your generosity, over 75% of the funds needed to complete the Lory Medical Building have been raised. As you consider your end of year giving, prayerfully considering being a part of this exciting time in the ministry. As we near full funding, needs for a well ($4,500) and hospital beds ($800) still exist. If you would like to be a part of this, please contact HCM Forwarding Agent Tom Moss using the information on the front page.

Important News Regarding January Newsletter

In late January, HCM will send out 2016 end of year giving statements. There will not be a January 2017 newsletter. If you have any questions about this, please contact us.

Bringing Light to Northern Haiti

Preaching and Teaching the Word of God

Haitian Christian Ministries

2016 Issue 11

Impacted by Hurricane Matthew

Our Haitian brothers and sisters showed God’s love to the community of Les Cayes recently as they travelled to a town impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

Pastor Bob and Pastor Jacques presented the need to their churches and developed a plan to feed around 400 families and distribute some essential supplies. Haitian Christian Ministries sent $3,700 to support this outreach effort and the two churches also committed money to the cause.

On Monday, October 31 the churches met and purchased the items and began assembling bags. On Wednesday of that week, members of the churches met at 2am to load bags on the bus before leaving for Les Cayes. This was a 12 hour bus drive. Bags were handed out and God’s word and love were shared, The team returned to Northern Haiti as there was no place to stay in these devastated areas.

Please continue to pray for the people of Les Cayes and praise God for the servant hearts of our Haitian friends!

Heavy Rains Impact Northern

Haiti

The last several days of October and first week of November saw record heavy rains in Northern Haiti. This has impacted the people as roads have been impassable at times, resulting in a lack of food availability, etc. Please pray for the rains to subside and that the impact of the rains is minimized.

Child Sponsorship Photo Trip a Success

Thanks to Child Sponsorship Director Donna McCall for this update.

We arrived in Haiti on Monday afternoon October 17th. We were able to take photos Tuesday and Wednesday. Jaimie and Casey translated the 5th and 6th grade letters on Wednesday morning. One class of 5th graders wrote in English this year. What a blessing that was. It was perfect weather for taking the photos on Tuesday. It was overcast so no problems with sun and shadows . In the past we have had to move to a different spot in the afternoon but this year we took all the photos in the same spot. There are 796 grade school children and 743 high school students. This year we had more absences than in previous years so those numbers may not be correct. We collected most of the grade school colored pictures and letters and got those alphabetized in the evenings. Within the next few weeks we will get the new photos, colored pictures and letters to the sponsors.

«Name»

«Address1»

«Address2»

«City» «ZIP»

This year our team decided to build a WHH house while we were there so on Wednesday afternoon we painted the house for the Ambroise family. Thursday morning we made the furniture with lots of help from the WHH crew. Thursday afternoon we decorated the house and had the dedication. This is always a special time for the team as well as the new homeowner. Our senior pastor has sponsored Marc Darly for 8 years so it was the likely choice for us to build the house for his family.

As you can see, the Pillatre school continues to grow by God’s grace. The school is the highest rated in Northern Haiti and is raising up the future leaders of the church and the community by providing a quality Christian based education. Currently 91% of grade school is sponsored and 55% of high school. Several churches are having sponsorship drives in the next few months so those numbers will change.

Continue your current levels of child sponsorship.

Increase your monthly sponsorship amount to $30 if you have not done so yet.

Sponsor a child if you currently are not or sponsor an additional child.

Ask 5 of your friends to sponsor one of the children for $30.00 per month

Minimal Impact to Northern Haiti from

Hurricane Matthew

Thank you to our friends and supporters for reaching out over the last several days to check on the impact of Hurricane Matthew on Haitian Christian Ministries and our partners Welcome Home Haiti and Emmaus Biblical Seminary. The northern part of Haiti was spared the brunt of the hurricane and other than some moderate rain, saw no impact.

As you can see from the photo shown here, the south and southwestern portions of Haiti were not so fortunate. Hundreds have lost their lives and thousands are now homeless. There are also reports of cholera outbreaks due to stagnant water. Please be in constant prayer for all of Haiti.

The HCM Board will be meeting the weekend of October 14th in Rolla, MO. During the meeting they will be discussing the impacts of Hurricane Matthew to Haiti. The board will also be discussing ideas of how to partner with established ministries that operate in the impacted areas in southwest Haiti. Please pray for wisdom and discernment for the board.

Partnership with Emmaus

Biblical Seminary Continues

to Bear Fruit

In August we announced a new partnership with Emmaus Biblical Seminary to support church planting efforts in Northern Haiti to share the Gospel with the unreached. Just two weeks ago, HCM partnered with EBS to provide a well to the Fev community, where the church plant has seen over 120 Haitians give their lives to Christ.

In November, Pastor Walnique Cadet of the Fev Church will be hosting a Family Conference Team from Eastview Christian Church for a one day VBS at Fev.

Lory Multipurpose Building Moving Towards Fundraising Goal

In the last issue of the newsletter, we announced a capital campaign to build a multipurpose building at the Lory church. The building would be designed in such a way as to allow medical teams to visit the Lory church for multiple days and run a true clinic while there. This building will serve additional needs for the Lory church and their ministry to the local community as well

God continues to bless this project and in just one month funding has been provided for over two thirds of the estimated cost. If you would like to be a part of this effort, please contact Rick White or Tom Moss using their information on the previous page.

Child Sponsorship Update

It is October so that means the school in Pillatre has been open for about one month for the school year. Enrollment at the school this year stands at 1,525 students. In a few short days, a team from the USA will travel to Haiti to take photos of the school children. While there are more children sponsored than ever before, there are still 390 children in need of a sponsor. Your $30 per month helps pay for a child’s education, a hot meal every day, and access to a free medical care through the clinic.

To sponsor a child, please contact our Child Sponsorship Director Donna McCall using the information on the first page of the newsletter. We will have a field report from Donna in the next issue. Additionally, we are looking for Child Sponsorship Ambassadors to work with their family, friends and coworkers to find sponsors for five children. Please contact Donna or Tom if you would like to be a part of this program.

Haitian Christian Ministries

2016 Issue 9

As we have shared in recent newsletters, God continues to grow the Lory church under the leadership of Pastor Jacques. The church has outgrown its current facility and the board is now announcing a capital campaign for a new multi-purpose building on the Lory grounds.

This building (preliminary exterior design above) is designed to fit into the long term site plan for the Lory Church and would include some necessary items for future growth, which include a separate building for the generator and a separate well for the medical clinic.

The six medical teams that travel to Haiti each year would be able to increase the size of their team and have a full team at Pillatre and Lory when the building is completed. The building would include two large storage areas for the medical teams to keep their items secured when not in use.

The under roof square footage of the building would be ~ 2,600 square feet and the finished square footage of the building would be ~2,100 square feet. The anticipated cost of the facility is $90,000.

We have received a $25,000 commitment from a supporter of the ministry if we can raise $25,000 in matching funds. Our dream is to begin construction of this facility in the 1st quarter of 2017. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this exciting campaign. If you feel so lead, please contact Director of Development Rick White or Forwarding Agent Tom Moss using the information to the left. When sending a check, please write "Lory Multi-purpose Campaign" in the memo.

Eastview Team Holds Sport Camp, Teen Girls Conference

Thanks to Jason and Julie Fields for sharing their trip experience.

Recently our family had an opportunity to partner with God in Haiti and experience His hand moving in very powerful ways. In spite of our best-intended and over-organized plans, God had other ideas for His people in Haiti. We began the week in Worship with Pillatre Church. Worship and the Church took on a special closeness with the realization that our Eastview family were back in Illinois worshiping at the very same moment.

Flexibility; the name of the game! Our trip was originally called a Sports Camp and Men's Conference. Again, God's Spirit was moving in another direction and by the time the trip came around, we were doing a Sports Camp and Teen Girls Conference. Monday morning, not a single child showed up for the Sports Camp. However, every teacher at Haitian Christian Ministries School was ready for their single day Teacher Institute. I (as the only teacher in the group) spoke, integrated team-building activities, and we all shared a lot of laughs talking about our shared teaching experiences. Tuesday and Wednesday, the kids came in the hundreds to play.

The Teen Girls Conference pushed the comfort zone for most. Yet again, God moved to give what was needed…we were charged with sharing Your Body, God's Plan (sex education-yikes!). Day one, we had a nursing student share the "biology" of men, women, sex, puberty, and pregnancy. Day two, the teen girls in our group shared God's plan for marriage and sex. Day three, I shared as a father God's desire for them. The conference was amazing (from the Haitian feedback) and we're hopeful that this will open the door for future conferences addressing this huge need.

Bottom line: we saw God perform miracles! Here is a snapshot of a few: Pre-trip fundraising; getting through Customs with 19 suitcases of supplies paying NOTHING; the more supplies we gave out, the more supplies we had - (Fish & Loaves); no drama among team members; Haitian girls fully engaged and asking questions with sensitive subject of the conference; safety…and I could seriously go on for pages describing very tangible ways God moved.

All we can say is, "Thank you God for allowing us to experience you deeply!"

Haitian Christian Ministries

2016 Issue 8

HCM Minsitry Partner – Emmaus Bible

Seminary Introduces Church Plant Program

Earlier this year, we announced a new partnership with Emmaus Bible Seminary (EBS). This agreement was finalized in July. The partnership with Emmaus will kick into high gear in 2017. In the meantime, Pastor Jacques of the Lory church will be heading up the effort on the ground, observing and providing feedback on how the partnership will work.

Reaching Hearts for Haiti is the name of the EBS church plant/outreach program. The program is a sustainable model of how to build churches in Haiti and reach the lost. The first plant location is in the village of Fev, an unreached area towards the mountains in the area of northern Haiti. The outreach in Fev started in July 2015 with two weeks of going from home to home and sharing the gospel and practicing discipleship.

Today, the church has grown to 120 Sunday attendees and dozens have been baptized into the faith. HCM has provided tents to the Fev church so that parishoners can have some shade during Sunday services. The pastor of the church, Pastor Walnique Cenat, was recently ordained in a moving ceremony at the Fev church.

A second location is currently in the works, with discipleship taking place. Additionally, EBS students are canvassing areas and looking for opportunities to plant additional churches. HCM is currently providing support to two EBS students from the Pillatre church. Ongoing, HCM plans to support one student per class both financially and with guidance from Senior Pastor Bob of the Pillatre church and Pastor Jacques of the Lory church. If you would like to be a part of this exciting new partnership, please contact Tom Moss using the information to the left of this article.

Eastview Youth Complete Two Homes for Pillatre

Families

A team of 23 high school students and 7 leaders from Eastview Christian Church of Bloomington, Illinois travelled to Haiti in mid-July to complete two homes through our partner Welcome Home Haiti. Due to the size of the team, they were split into two teams as they worked. One team stayed at the Laguerre home in town while the other stayed at the apartment behind the church in Pillatre.

Taking youth to Haiti gives them a special opportunity to bond with the Welcome Home Haiti finishing crew, who are the same age as the students. They had prayer and devotional times together and capped off the trip with a joint talent show.

Check Your Employer’s Matching Gift Benefits

Remember that Welcome Home Haiti is a 501c3 non-profit organization and may be eligible for programs where your employer matches your donations or will provide funding based on volunteer hours.

Medical Team Serves the Pillatre and Lory

Communities

Thanks to Todd Wilcox for providing this recap and the photos.

On June 3, our team of 20 from Eastview Christian Church left Bloomington-Normal for Cap Haitian, Haiti. The team consisted of four doctors, five nurses, one police officer, and nine non-medical personnel. We hit the ground running on Saturday, unpacking five crates we had sent down in early May; full of medicine, medical supplies, and personal hygiene items to hand out to patients at the clinics. What a joy it was to worship with our Haitian brothers and sisters at the church in Pillatre on Sunday morning.

The size of our team allowed us to split each day and go to two separate locations. We were all so

blessed to work alongside Pastor Jacques and his team at the church in Lory. We were able to create three make shift exam stations with pews in the church, and saw over 400 patients providing medicines and hygiene kits to all. We also had team members each day working alongside the staff at the clinic in Pillatre, where the doctors were able to perform over 80 surgical procedures during the week.

At the clinic we also had three exam rooms, a full pharmacy, along with the operating room to see over 600 patients for the week. Our team was so thankful to Judith and Julie for helping each day with the logistics for the teams and also acting as interpreters in both locations.

Dozens Baptized into the Faith During Week of Revival

From Pastor Bob of the Pillatre church…

? We had one week of spiritual revival from June 19th to the 24th. The theme was: "Be Grateful to God" (Ephesians 5:20). To prepare for this, personal invitations were made to other churches in the community. There was also discipleship throughout the week – from door to door. This spiritual awakening enabled the community to bring praises and thanks to God and had a chance to listen to some prodigious spiritual leaders from the northern area of Haiti.

? On Friday afternoon (July 24th), upon my recommendation, deacons of the church interviewed 48 candidates for baptism and 47 got baptized on Saturday afternoon. This was a great joy for them, their families, and also for the church to have a great number of new believers.

? On the 26th, there was a great worship service. The choirs of the church blessed everyone’s heart with their beautiful songs. We received a delegation from the Christian church of Lory and other delegations from other churches in the community. During this time, Christians at Pillatre expressed their gratitude to God by bringing together the produce from their gardens for his continued blessings.

A Special Announcement

Judith Laguerre, the daughter of Prisca Laguerre and the late HCM Founder Pastor Manno Laguerre, was married to Valery Mesidor last month in a beautiful ceremony at Villa Cana.

Congratulations to the bride and groom!

"One Week, One Community, One Church" Week

of Revival Set for Pillatre Church

Pastor Bob at the Pillatre church has asked us to share this message with all of HCM’s partners and sponsors.

"I am glad to announce that there will be a great week of Spiritual Awakening at Pillatre Christian Church from June 19th to the 24th. This spiritual awakening will enable the community (choirs from other churches) to bring praises and thanks to God and they will have a chance to listen to some prodigious spiritual leaders from the northern area of Haiti. The theme will be: "Be Grateful to God" (Ephesians 5:20). On the 26th, there will be a great worship service. During this time, Christians at Pillatre will express their gratitude to God by bringing together the produce from their gardens for his continued blessings."

Pre-Revival Activities:

? Personal invitations will be made to other churches in the community.

? Invitation letters will be sent to gather more people from the community.

? Discipleship throughout the week – from door to door.

Prayer Requests:

? For this week to be successful

? For the community to unite, practice forgiveness and love and grow spiritually

? For at least 50 people come to Christ during this week

? For people who show gratitude to God by bringing their offerings

? For leadership change after this revival

? For the preachers to show consistency in their message

? For 100 Bibles (Creole version) to share

? For adequate funds for this wonderful project

Please be in prayer for the Pillatre church and for Pastor Bob and the leaders of the ministry as they prepare for and lead this week of revival. If you would like to help with funding this event, contact Director of Development Rick White at rickwhite@hcmin.org or at (480) 327-8516.

‘Devoted to Christ’ Outreach Ministry Serves Nearly 800 Haitian Prisoners

Judith Laguerre contributed to this article.

Devoted to Christ is a local outreach ministry at the Pillatre church that was started by church members to serve the very needy (the elderly in particular). Every Sunday they focus on feeding the elderly a hot breakfast. Because of the recent financial support that they have been receiving from Chandler Christian Church (Chandler, Arizona) on a monthly basis, they are able to do more when it comes to feeding the elderly on Sundays. Anything from a bowl of warm oatmeal to rice and beans has been a great treat for them lately. Recently Devoted to Christ was able to use the money received monthly to make a special visit to the prison in Cap Haitian to cook for the prisoners there. They served a warm meal to 777 Haitian prisoners and were able to show the prisoners the love of Jesus and share the Gospel with them.

Sponsored Children Update

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we received another 20 new child sponsorships in May. Please be praying for our ministry goal of 100 percent child sponsorship. If you would like to host a Sponsored Child event at your church or with your small group, please contact Child Sponsorship Director Donna McCall at (970) 389-0639 or at rmccall311@aol.com

Tonjua Sibley stepped into leading a medical team 48 hours before leaving for Haiti. We asked her to share about her experience.

The Haiti April 2016 trip was miraculous and quite amazing. I led the trip along with Katrina Moore. Being that I had been 7 times before and this was her second time one would think we knew what we were doing and had it all under control, but God is who had it under control. Our adventure begin on April 2nd where we met at the Airport to depart at 11:00pm. Our initial leader Vicky Steele, who had been to Haiti over 19 times and led numerous trips, had to pull out at the last minute due to her husband’s illness. She did meet us at the airport so that we could start off smooth as could be. However, the norm for a mission trip this size took place; bags over the allotted weight, rearranging supplies at the counter, even one of the team members reservations being cancelled was part of our start for this journey. However, God was in control and she was allowed on the flight anyway and all 15 bags met weight regulations.

The biggest fear Katrina and I had with leading this mission trip was getting all 15 bags and 17 missionaries through customs without being charged an arm and a leg. God had this under control as He miraculously arranged for Pastor Manno and Prisca’s girls Julie and Judith and her fiancé to be on the same flight with us from Miami to Haiti. All 15 bags got through with probably the least amount of hassle ever known to a HCM team. From that point on I knew God was the true leader of this team. As a team we worked together to accomplish a common goal: meet the needs of every life we touched.

This team had the pleasure of being the second team to serve our brothers and sisters in the village of Lory. We took a mobile clinic to the church of Lory and served over 130 patients and were able to bless Pastor Jacque with a Polaroid picture of him and the team together after a hard day’s work. This seemed to really touch him as I don’t think it had ever been done before. This team did a lot of things that had never been done before and that brought the character and name we agreed upon; The Late but Great Team; as we were on Haitian time often. We had the pleasure of praying and caring for 677 of our Haitian brothers and sisters during our time on this trip.

I don’t know if I would ever lead another team to Haiti for my dear friend, sister, and mentor Vicky Steele. However, as long as I live I will always support Pastor Manno’s vision and dream for HCM. 85 280 0 50 100 150 200 250 300 Grade School High School Remaining Unsponsored Children

Sponsored Child Update

During the last two Sundays in April, Eastview Christian Church of Bloomington, IL held child sponsor drives for the children of the Pillatre Christian School. Over 80 children were paired with new sponsors over the two weekends. As of the end of April these are the statistics for child sponsorship at Pillatre.

As you can see, there is still a long ways to go toward our goal of 100 percent child sponsorship. Please prayerfully consider sponsoring a child and hosting a child sponsorship event at your local church.

Church Planting Update

Pastor Bob of the Pillatre church and Pastor Jacque of the Lory church are canvassing areas for a new church plant. Additionally, Haitian Christian Ministries is prayerfully considering a partnership with Emmaus Biblical Seminary (EBS) in their Reaching the Hearts of Haiti discipleship program. This program began last summer and has resulted in two church plants in unreached areas to date and EBS students are currently canvassing three unreached areas.
Coming Full Circle: Kicking & Screaming…

HCM Director of Development Rick White recently returned from a trip to Haiti. This is the story of his relationship with the ministry.

Our love for Haitian Christian Ministries, the Pillatre Christian School and the Students began a long, long time ago. My wife Susie and I first met HCM at Eastview Christian Church in Normal, IL in 1987. It was suggested then that we consider supporting the school children at Pillatre School through the Student Sponsorship Program. Susie was sold from the very beginning on the need to provide for these children. We learned children who are in school would receive one hot meal a day and if they don’t attend school, maybe they will eat once every three days and the "meal" would be a mango. It took some "kicking and screaming" on my part for me to finally get it and understand the need for my involvement in this wonderful ministry.

I think my kicking and screaming began in 1987. It was Easter Sunday I was at church with my wife Susie at Eastview. I was pulled into a conversation she was having with some "first-time" short term Missionaries who has just returned from Haiti. Something was going on with them that she wanted to be a part of, and I began to kick and scream! Not me I thought, I am climbing the corporate ladder at Sears and that is my life’s focus! Susie understood from the beginning what God was doing, but I didn’t get it!

Fast forward a year later, "I am going to Haiti in November," she (my wife) said without any reservation. I lovingly shared, "that won’t work because November is an important time in retail," (remember that ladder climb,) "and I can’t be interrupted!" I checked with my boss, knowing that I would not be able to go and therefore Susie, my wife couldn’t go! I couldn’t believe it but my boss said yes, travel! Now what do I do? I told Susie I would go only if I could clear it with the brass.

I must tell you, I have not been the same since after our very first short-term Mission Trip to Haitian Christian Ministries. Pastor Emmanuel Laguerre, his wonderful wife Prisca and their three children, Patrick, Judith and Julie have had a pronounced affect not only on Susie’s life but my life and CAREER as well!

On our way back to Illinois from Haiti on that 1988 trip, I felt the Lord stirring my nest about serving Him in a larger fashion at some point in my life but I had absolutely no clue as to what and where. In 1988 all I knew in the way of Mission trips was to Haiti and surely he wouldn’t choose that place for me.

For the next 25 years, I continued to climb some retail corporate ladders, participated in some additional short-term trips mostly with my wife and in 1994 was working for a retail company and found myself in a position I had dreamed about for years; the store Manager for a very large electronics retailer. In those same 25 years, Susie’s love for the children and the Ministry at Pillatre continued to grow and become more intense. Each year we would go, Susie would be the Medical Team leader and on numerous occasions, she along with 2 to 3 other Nurses would see more than 500 patients, often under the mango tree at Pillatre. She can tell you story after story how God spoke to her, stirred her heart, prompted her to encourage me to engage in the ministry in Haiti as we continued to support more and more students at Pillatre Christian School. One morning before we were to leave for work, I saw a tear in her eye. I said, "What’s going on?" "I was just thinking about Manno, Prisca and Haiti." she said. Just then our phone rang; it was Manno who was in Missouri traveling to a city to speak and just wanted to call. I could go on.

Then it happened again, God called this time and with that call, He began to stir my nest again. I had begun my dream job in March 1994, and by October, 16, 1994, the stirring of God had moved me to my first Vocational Ministry position with a church in Carmel, Indiana. For the next 20 years, we were allowed to introduce HCM to three churches and hundreds of individuals, all who became partners with HCM. We led 8 trips to Haiti, traveled to 16 additional countries, and continued to ponder, "Is this what God wants me to do?" We continued to support several dozens of students and to experience Ministry in several other positions with churches and para-church organizations. All the while I was still searching. However, I was no longer kicking and screaming, but was trying to pay attention to God and His calling on my life. The entire time these changes were taking place, my wife Susie was praying for God to grab my heart and to help me to focus on what was important in my life. I am confident, without those prayers from her, the changes would not have happened. What a prayer warrior she is. She continues to keep me lifted up with her petitions to God.

In 2014, the President of the Board of Haitian Christian Ministries and I sat down and talked about the needs of a growing Haitian Ministry. Several months later, the Board called me to be the Director of Development for HCM. I really felt I had come full circle in my thinking and in my heart from the very first time I traveled to Haiti in November, 1988. Maybe this time, I really was working in His dream job for me.

In 1988 I said yes, I will go and do what God would have me do while in Haiti. Little did I know then my vocational Ministry excursions would bring me to a position with HCM.

Susie and I have just returned from Pillatre on Thursday, April 7th, 2016 and noted all of the changes that have taken place in Haiti, at Pillatre, at Lory, with the Laguerre family, with the children, and in the town of Cap Haitian, Haiti. We also remarked about the changes that have taken place in Rick and Susie White. We are so blessed and would not have traded any of this for anything else. No more kicking and screaming for me, just praying and praising the Lord.

Now it’s your turn to see what God will do in your heart! Stop kicking, screaming and squirming, God loves you and He has a plan for your life! Is He calling you? Pick up His call! Perhaps it will begin in you, as you start to sponsor a Pillatre Christian School Student.

Three Teams Serving at Pillatre in the Same
Week
This February 23rd marked the one year anniversary of Pastor Manno being called home. For the first time in HCM history, there were three different teams on the ground at that time serving the people of Pillatre and Northern Haiti. This a true testament to Manno’s work and legacy
Dillon Community Church Medical Team
Dillon Community Church from Colorado sent a medical team of 12 ( 1-doctor,
1-PA, 3-RNs, 1-CNA, 2- Pharmacists, and 4-great helpers) The team worked at
the clinic working alongside the Haitian clinic staff to treat approx 670 patients.
The Dillon team was in Haiti last year when Pastor
Manno passed away so the team had been
praying for a chance to return and support the
clinic. One of the highlights of the trip was
conducting a morning clinic at the Lory Church,
and then attending a lunch at Prisca's with the two
Welcome Home Haiti teams also at Pillatre.
The team was elated with the renovations at the
clinic, especially the new operating room light and
the fresh coat of paint in the exam rooms! Senior
Pastor Jim Howard of Dillon Community Church
(on his first trip to Haiti) loved being able to pray
for the patients as they waited to be seen.
Matthew 5:14-16 seemed to be the focus of the team as they spent time at
Pillatre, even the sermon given by Pastor Bob on Sunday referenced the same
passages.
Welcome Home Haiti Teams
Two teams were in Haiti completing and dedicating homes for Pillatre Church families during this time. There was a team from Eastview Christian Church completing a home for the Destin family. The other team was assembled by HCM Board Member and Forwarding Agent Tom Moss and was comprised of lawyers and claims specialists from his employer. This team was represented by people from different denominations from across the country. They dedicated a home to the Napolean family.

While there were logistical challenges with having
three different teams on the ground at the same
time, God accomplished everything He wanted to.
As the ministry continues to thrive, it is wonderful to
see our Haitian brothers and sisters and ministry
partners step up their efforts to build relationships
with short-term missionaries to Northern Haiti.
These homes were number 53 and 54 for
Welcome Home Haiti.
One of the best parts of traveling to Haiti with
Welcome Home Haiti is the house dedication. The
Moss team is shown here after the dedication with
the family. The bonds developed last a lifetime
and beyond.
Child Sponsorship Update
Thank you to those of you that answered the call in last month’s newsletter as we strive towards our
goal of 100% child sponsorship for the Pillatre school. There is still considerable need for additional
children to be sponsored so please prayerfully consider sponsoring an additional child, becoming a
Sponsored Child Ambassador, or challenging your local small group to sponsor children. As always,
please contact Child Sponsorship Director Donna McCall (contact information on the front page) with
any questions.

Bringing Light to Northern Haiti

Preaching and Teaching the Word of God

Haitian Christian Ministries

2016 Issue 2

Planting Churches

This month we celebrate Donna McCall’s 10th anniversary of serving as Child Sponsorhip Director. In honor of this occasion, we sat down with Donna to discuss the Child Sponsorship Program.

In 2006 I was given the privilege of being the Child Sponsorship Director. At that time there were 550 students in grade school. A couple of years later, I started to make an annual trip to Haiti to take school photos of all the students at one time so that each year sponsors would receive an updated photo of their student. In 2009, the school added high school grades starting with 7th and adding a new grade each year. This year grade 13 was added, which is a required grade for entrance to college.

The total number of students at Pillatre this year is 1,448. The grade school students come to school in the morning and high school students come in the afternoon. Students are required to pass government tests at 6th, 9th, 12th and 13th grade. Pillatre Christian School is one of the highest scoring schools in Northern Haiti.

This year we are trying to have 100% sponsorship. In grade school there are 134 students out of 668 who are not sponsored – most of them are in kindergarten age 3 and Pre K 1 age 4. In high school there are 668 students and 283 need sponsors. Sponsorship is $30 a month for new sponsors and this helps provide school supplies, access to the medical clinic, vitamin, uniform, Christian education and a hot meal each day.

God has blessed the ministry over the years through our sponsors. There has been a 40 percent increase in child sponsorship over the last few years. I want to thank everyone who sponsors a student in Haiti. You are a blessing to each of them. If you could sponsor another student it would be greatly appreciated or if you would be willing to do a sponsorship drive at your church I can send you photos to accomplish this. Please contact me at rmccall311@aol.com if you have any questions.

Pillatre Church Kicks Off a New Year

HCM Field Director Prisca Laguerre addressed the congregation at the Pillatre church the first weekend of January to kick off the new year. Here are the highlights of her address.

? 2015 was a trying time for all of us. We lost someone very special. We never thought that God would allow something like this to happen. Please continue to pray for the ministry and for the family because even though we seem to be doing a little bit better, we still have a very long way to go. God is faithful and we can always count on Him! You can see that He has been faithful, because, since Pastor Manno’s passing, He has not left our side.

? Thank you to Pastor Bob for staying by our side during this very hard transition. It was unimaginable for most of us to accept someone else in Pastor Manno’s place and we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being patient with us. If it wasn’t for you, we don’t know where we would be.

? Pastor Manno was like no other. He did everything in this ministry. Now that he is gone, it has taken seven (7) of us to do what Pastor Manno alone used to do. Things will never be the same so I ask that you please be patient with all of us as we learn what our new "normal" is without Pastor Manno.

? We want 2016 to be a good year for us. We want good things to come out of the year 2016! We want to love and understand each other. Remember what God has done for us these last 10 months!!! Praise God because he will never leave us. Let us continue to always say, "Thank you!" to God!

Church Planting News

The HCM Board of Directors along with the Senior Pastors of the churches at Pillatre and Lory and the Field Director have prayerfully decided to plant a 3rd church in Northern Haiti in 2016. There is more exciting news within this pillar of the ministry that we are hoping to announce in the weeks ahead. Please be praying for wisdom and discernment for our leaders and for God’s will to be done.

Bringing Light to Northern Haiti

Preaching and Teaching the Word of God

Haitian Christian Ministries

2016 Issue 1

The village called Lory. Lory is between Pillatre and Cap-Haiten. The Lory church of HCM continues to grow and thrive, with several hundred people attending services on Sundays. We recently sat down with Lory Pastor Jacques Zephirin to learn more about how God is moving in that community.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

"I was born at Ville-du-lac and attended primary and secondary school in Cap-Haiten. Then I attended Emmaus Bible Seminary, graduating in 2000. I am furthering my studies via correspondence school and will complete that learning in 2017. I am married and we have four children, three boys and one girl."

Do you have a life verse or a passage of special meaning from The Bible?

"I would say my life verse is Romans 8:28. ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ As I reflect on this verse, I believe God has called me to this ministry at Lory. Pastor Manno and I often discussed Acts 2:37-39 and that the gift of Jesus and the Holy Spirit is for all of God’s children, from those called to His purpose to those who are far off."

Please tell us about the Lory church.

"Pastor Manno started the Lory church in 2003 and in 2005 he asked me to lead the flock at Lory. In 2005, there were maybe 60 people attending on a good Sunday. Today, we have over 300 attending church services on Sundays. We have made several recent improvements to the Lory property, including a Welcome Home Haiti guardhouse and a new well for fresh water. We have some big needs, including a long-term facility and additional seating for services but I am confident God will provide."

A team from the USA recently conducted a family conference at Lory. How was this received?

"The people of the Lory church greatly appreciated the missionaries’ willingness to come and conduct the family conference at our church. We also had a medical team recently visit. We are excited to have the missionaries come and serve alongside us."

How can we be praying for the Lory church and for you?

"We want to bring more people to Christ in the community. Also, our young adults in the church do not stay. They go away to school and do not return. We want to support them and keep them in the church and in the community. As for me, my motorcycle was recently stolen and I do not have personal transportation from my home to Lory. I am praying for a new motorcyle so that I can better serve the Lory community."

Welcome Home Haiti Rings in the New Year with the Completion of Its 52nd Home

HCM Marketing Director Jay Herrman was in Pillatre from December 28th-January 2nd along with his family and 13 others for the completion of the Mackenson Pierre home. We asked Jay to share his experience.

This trip was my third Welcome Home Haiti trip since 2013 and the first time that my entire family had traveled to Haiti at the same time. This home was for Mackenson Pierre, his wife and their beautiful twin girls. Mackenson is one of the leaders on the Welcome Home Haiti Work Crew, so when we heard God had answered his prayers for a home, we knew He wanted us to be a part of this trip.

This was my first trip to Haiti since Pastor Manno was called home. As I prepared for the trip, I prayed that God would still have His hand on the ministry and the people of Pillatre. Our God is faithful and true, and I can tell you that His Kingdom is advancing in this ministry and community.

We had the opportunity to see seven of the Welcome Home Haiti work crew baptized on New Year’s Eve, along with about 20 other brothers and sisters. The work Steve and Shelley Hari are doing with these young men is really making an eternal impact. As they get older, I am watching them become Christian leaders in their community, in their family, and in the church.

The community of Pillatre seemed different to me as well. There is hope and joy within the people. They are seeing firsthand God’s work in their community through a vibrant church, fifty homes built and dozens of jobs created. They have nothing in the way we Americans think of possessions, but they have an inner joy and peace that can only be attributed to our God.

Because so many on our team have a personal relationship with Mackenson, the house dedication ceremony was extremely emotional for all involved. As Mackenson praised God for his new home, I couldn’t help but think this was an image of what our eternal home will be like. Brothers and sisters from the ends of the earth, celebrating, worshipping and praising together. Life change, this is why we go…

On our last night we had the opportunity to host a party and limbo contest at Pillatre. We don’t often get opportunities to just "do life" with our Haitian brothers and sisters on these trips. It was a great experience and a nice way to finish off a wonderful trip.

This year has really flown by and it's hard to believe that Christmas is only one week away. This year has also been full of change, tough events and new horizons for Haitian Christian Ministries. As a Ministry, we are indeed thankful for our many partners that have continued to pray for us and continued to financially support our students and the work at Pillatre and Lory.

This year we launched our very first list of opportunities that our partners could consider, making an incredible investment to help the Ministry. Hopefully you have had a chance to review the opportunities we presented for you in our first annual Wishlist 2015 Brochure. We have included a copy of that brochure with this blog. It may be a bit hard to read, but please turn your head and give it a look!

HCM is in need of additional people to step up and support the Pillatre Christian School by choosing to sponsor one or more of our enrolled student body. We have more than 350 students that still need to be sponsored, so now is a great time to consider making that $30.00 per month investment in the life of a Haitian young man or young woman.

The first item listed in our brochure is the need for at least 50 people to commit to pray for us each and every day! Are you and your family prayer warriors? We need your dedication to prayer and praise as we ask God to continue to bless Haitian Christian Ministries.

How about becoming an Ambassador for Haitian Christian Ministries? What is an ambassador, you might ask? It's a person who does the work of the King or the one that has sent them. Are you able to promote the work of HCM and advocate for new student Sponsorships? Then, sign up for an ambassador role.

We will be digging wells at the site of each and every new church plant that is started in Haiti. The brochure also mentions how you can help with that as well. So, please take some time and review the Wish LIst that was sent to all of our partners who receive our mailings. Thank you for considering a year-end gift from our Wish List 2015.

On behalf of Prisca Laguerre and her family in Haiti, the Staff and Board of Directors of Haitian Christian Ministries, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a most prosperous New Year. God Bless you as we head for 2016!

Recently I have been working on the details of a trip to Cincinnati so Haitian Christian Ministries will be represented at the North American Christian Convention. I tried to recall the last time HCM was a part of any of the Christian Conventions. A number of years ago, I know we were represented at the National Missionary Convention I believe in Springfield, Illinois but that was a long time ago so we are excited about the opportunity to interact with so many friends and supporters.

Please stop by Booth # 638 and say hello. I would enjoy bringing you up to date on the vibrancy of the Ministry in the Cap Haitian area. On a future note, Haitian Christian Ministries will also be a part of the ICOM in October in Richmond, Virginia. Blessings to you and your family and I will see you in Cincinnati beginning the afternoon of June 23rd.

Since that time, I have spent a lot of time thinking and praying about Pastor Manno, the Laguerre family and Haitian Christian Ministries. My friend, Dick Ulmer from the Sun Valley Community Church in Arizona, did a masterful job of putting together a tribute video that was shared at Manno’s service in Florida on March 7th. He asked me for some photos that could be included in that history lesson. That task allowed me to pour over a lot of memories of times spent serving God through Haitian Christian Ministries.

I went through the hundreds and hundreds of pictures that my wife Susie and I have taken over the years since our first trip to Pillatre in November, 1988. What a walk down memory lane for us. Have you done some of the same since you heard about the loss of our dear brother? Of course you have and how it gladdens our hearts to have had the opportunity to have our world rocked by such a relationship with God through Pastor Manno. “You don’t choose Haiti, Haiti chooses you,” Manno often told us.

Part of the process of dealing with the loss of Pastor Manno is to look backwards and think about the many ways our lives have been impacted by Haitian Christian Ministries, Pillatre Christian Church and the entire Laguerre family. However, Manno would want you to also look forward, toward a bright future as HCM continues to strive to Bring Light To Northern Haiti By Changing Lives, One At A Time!

On Sunday, March 22, 2015, the first Medical Mission team to work at Pillatre since Pastor Manno’s Celebration of Life Service that was held March 15th, returned to Arizona. The trip’s leader, Vicky Steele had a team of eleven, and not only did they see more than 350 patients, she also reported that the Ministry is moving forward and God is alive and well in Haiti. The team arrived on March 14th and attended the Celebration Service on the 15th.

“The service was a wonderful tribute to an amazing man. Prisca among others spoke to the congregation. Her words were powerful; even though she spoke in Creole with no interpretation, every one of us had tears in our eyes seeing the response of the people,” shared Vicky.

“Our team of 11 saw 352 patients last week, a smaller number than usual, but overall the patients we did see were much sicker than normal. Most every patient we saw, needed to be seen.” “Everywhere we went, God paved the way; this was by far the smoothest a trip has ever gone (after more than 15 trips under Vicky’s Leadership).”

“The week we thought was going to be difficult due to grief turned out to be an amazing week. Yes, there were tears, but the joy of carrying on Pastor Manno’s dream 'that the Ministry carry on after he is gone,' far surpassed the grief. Your life has not been wasted my friend,“ Vicky said.

Memorial contributions continue to come in to the Ministry. There is still time for you to pray about ways you, your church and your family can help remember the life and legacy of Pastor Manno. Perhaps your desire is to help with the medical expenses that were incurred, or help with the expenses of Manno’s Funeral Services.

Maybe, some funds to help care for Pastor Manno’s family as they continue to serve in the ministry. The third way would be to make an investment along with many others by contributing to the Scholarship Fund that will be set up to help future HCM Preachers to attend Seminary in Haiti as our Great God continues to bless the work of Haitian Christian Ministries.

The future is BRIGHT! because Manno worked very hard to insure the ministry and work at Pillatre, Lory and all future church and school campuses would continue to move forward in his absence. God’s calling on his life has been evident in the past 30+ years. We are seeing the legacy continued as we support Prisca, the Laguerre family and the church families at Pillatre and Lory.

Thanks for remembering and reminiscing along with the rest of us. Thanks for praying and partnering with HCM and the work in Northern Haiti. You are a blessing to us. The future IS bright!

Haitian Christian Ministries Family,

It’s with broken hearts that the Board of Directors of HCM announce that Pastor Emmanuel (Manno) Laguerre passed away this afternoon (Mon. Feb 23, 2015) in Miami, FL.

Pastor Manno’s Health

In October of 2014, Pastor Manno suffered stroke like symptoms and was rushed to the States for further medical testing. The original diagnosis was cysticercosis, a parasitic infection. Pastor Manno was treated and then released back to Haiti in late November and was able to participate in HCM’s 30th anniversary celebration on January 11, 2015. A few weeks after the celebration, Pastor Manno suffered a relapse and was flown to the states again. Due to the severity of his re-lapse, Manno was checked into the Emergency Room in Miami, FL. After several days of testing, a new potential diagnosis emerged. Growths were found on Manno’s adrenal gland and on his lung. After further testing, there was some discussion that Manno might have had an aggressive malignant cancer which had metastasized and spread to his brain. It caused bleeding and swelling on his brain as well as other complications. An autopsy will help definitively conclude what happened. Ultimately, God called his faithful servant home today surrounded by his wife Prisca, and his three children Judith, Julie and Patrick.

Pastor Manno’s Memory

At the request of Pastor Manno’s wife Prisca, HCM will hold a small funeral service in Miami most likely on Saturday March 7th . Pastor Manno will be buried in Miami and following the service, the family will travel home to Haiti to conduct a celebration of life ceremony with the Pillatre Church and community.

Pastor Manno’s Legacy

Pastor Manno was founder and Executive Director of HCM since its inception in 1984. Over the course of 30 years, God used Pastor Manno to transform the lives of the Pillatre community and thousands of partners and supporters from around the world. His dependence upon God and his love for his people were evident to all and unparalleled. To read more about the story of HCM, please visit the history page on the HCM website.

Pastor Manno was a gifted visionary, leader, preacher, teacher, mentor and above all friend. He spend his life dedicated to spreading the gospel in northern Haiti and is now enjoying his eternal reward for a life of service and sacrifice. His impact on this world cannot be fully understood or appreciated this side of eternity.

Several years ago Manno was asked what success for HCM would look like in the future; his response was that success would be the ministry living on after he was gone. The Laguerre family and the HCM board believe God has called us to fulfill that vision. As we grieve his loss, the HCM Board of Directors are working closely with the Laguerre family and the pastoral leadership team in Haiti to execute our succession plan. In the coming days and months, we will honor Manno’s legacy while also recognizing that God is not finished impacting Northern Haiti through HCM. The Laguerre family and the HCM board humbly ask you to stand alongside us during this difficult seasons as we work to prayerfully implement our succession plan.

Standing Shoulder to Shoulder

The ministry is beginning to receive requests from partners wanting to help during this difficult season. The HCM Board has set up a new fund where donations in Pastor Manno’s memory can be made. The gifts received will be used in three distinct ways including the following:

A portion will be used to help cover the costs of Manno’s medical treatment and funeral services.

A portion will be set aside for the ongoing care of Pastor Manno’s family as they continue to serve in the ministry.

A scholarship fund will be set up to help future HCM preachers attend seminary in Haiti with the potential of planting future HCM churches.

For those interested, you may make a special memorial gift online at www.hcmin.org/give or by mailing a check with “Memorial Fund” in the memo to 1223 Joy Walk Way Normal, IL 61761.

Prayer Requests

We’re asking for a concentrated prayer effort from all HCM partners over the coming months. Please pray for healing for Manno’s family. Please pray for discernment and direction as the HCM Board works alongside the Haitian field leadership to execute a successful succession plan. Please pray for God to be glorified through this and for the next generation of identified leaders to carry HCM into the future. On behalf of the Laguerre Family and the HCM Board thank you for standing beside us during this difficult season.

To God be the Glory,

Tyler Hari HCM Board President

He was rushed to the Milo Hospital where he was in stable condition and monitored by a team of doctors. He was originally scheduled to travel to the U.S. on Wednesday October 15th for an HCM board meeting and was able to make that journey. Since his arrival, he's been undergoing extensive medical testing. At this time, it is believed that an infection was the cause of his medical crises in Haiti and currently Pastor Manno is recouperating in Central IL until he is able to travel home in 4-6 weeks.
